Setting the Scene
After completing visual checks on my two newly obtained used Yuasa NP7-12 (12v 7Ah) lead acid batteries, I decided to power my IMAX B6 (clone) charger from it. That went OK. The problem with my situation occurred a 'tad' later when I had disconnected the charger from the battery and decided to do something else.

The Fateful Error
The fateful event occurred when I went to reconnect the charger to the battery. Not thinking (which I highly recommend not doing), I connected the positive crocodile clip to the negative battery terminal... and (you've guessed it) the negative clip to the positive terminal and.............
BANG!
OK, it didn't go bang, but it did go pop with a mini-cloud of magic smoke. The result:

There's some yummy components I can salvage, e.g. LCD, diodes, capacitors and maybe a small ferrite ring:
Unfortunately, this was the only charger I had that could charge my new old Pb batteries... to Amazon UK we go.
